About The Community Relations Department
The Community Relations Department was organized to help maintain a positive and engaging relationship with the citizens of Harris County. It contains a Community Service Division, Six (6) Storefronts, an Explorer Youth Program and a Crime Prevention Unit. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy is offered through this department to the public, giving residents a working experience of the HCSO. Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) classes for women involving realistic self-defense tactics and scenarios are also offered. Our storefronts are open to the public, allowing citizens to approach us with all kinds of concerns, from reporting crimes to receiving car seat inspections. The Explorers Youth Program is designed to give young adults the opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement by working with Deputies of the HCSO. In addition, the Community Relations Department attends several local events to provide our citizens with helpful information and crime prevention tips. The Crime Prevention Unit is a sub-unit of the Community Relations Division. The Crime Prevention Unit provides crime deterrent services and programs to the citizens and businesses within Harris County.
The mission of the Community Relations Department is to connect and develop relationships with the public in order to build a stronger community that is prepared to face any challenges or circumstances by equipping the citizens with necessary knowledge and experience.
