Explorers
The HCSO Explorer Program gives young adults the opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement by working with deputies of the HCSO.
The program is open to teenagers and young adults between the ages of 14 (must have completed 8th grade) and 21 interested in a career in law enforcement. Student participants get a first-hand look at what it takes to be a law enforcement officer and decide early on whether it is a career they want to pursue.
There are five Explorer posts within the HCSO, one assigned to each patrol district.
Young adults interested in participating in the Sheriff’s Explorer Program should contact an advisor at any of the five posts or the Program Coordinator at 713-759-9454. Please note that background checks will be conducted on all applicants.

Junior Mounted Posse
The HCSO Junior Mounted Posse is a non-profit educational and sports organization for youth ages 6 to 20. The Posse is a precision equine drill team which serves the HCSO as representatives and goodwill ambassadors to the citizens of Harris County and surrounding communities.
Because of the nature of the Posse, members must have access to a trained (broke to ride) horse, western tack and saddle, as well as a trailer to haul the horse to practices and events. For more information about the HCSO’s Junior Mounted Posse please go to hcsojuniorposse.weebly.com.
