Citizens Police Academy (C.P.A.)

The Harris County Citizens Police Academy class is a free, 13 weeks, training opportunity providing for citizens to learn about the internal operations of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

  • Scenario Night

Classes will meet on every Thursday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. followed by a graduation ceremony upon completion of training. Space is limited. Please apply early.

Benefits of participating in a Citizens Police Academy Class:


  • Helps citizens to alleviate misunderstandings about policing
  • Teaches participants how to better protect their property and enhance overall safety
  • Offers a firsthand look at the polices and regulations that police must follow
  • Provides all graduates an opportunity to join the CPA Alumni Association and continue their involvement with the Harris County Sheriff's Office through a number of volunteer opportunities.

Graduates will be better-informed citizens in a position to share their experiences with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

The Harris County Citizens Police Academy is for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations. The CPA is a part of our ongoing efforts to develop citizen awareness and public understanding of law enforcement.
